You watch a 90-second video on your device. Your front camera is active during playback. EchoDepth analyses 44 facial Action Units — involuntary muscle movements — in real time, mapping your genuine emotional responses across three dimensions: Valence (positive or negative affect), Arousal (energy level), and Dominance (sense of ease or control). The entire process takes under three minutes. All processing happens on your device. No raw video is transmitted or stored.

Most beta users reported forgetting the camera was active within the first twenty seconds. The video content is engaging enough that you stop thinking about being observed. The emotion capture is passive — you're just watching something, not performing for anyone. The data you generate is mathematical, not a recording of your face.

Your emotional response does not need to be extreme to be useful. The system measures the full range of genuine response — from mild interest to strong engagement — and builds a profile from the cumulative pattern rather than individual peak reactions. Being yourself, at your normal level of expressiveness, is exactly what the system needs. Trying to react 'correctly' would actually make the profile less accurate.

Raw emotional data — the video itself — is processed entirely on your device and never transmitted. What is stored is a mathematical emotional profile derived from that data. This profile is designed to avoid classification as biometric data under UK GDPR Article 9. You can delete your profile and all associated data permanently in a single tap.

No. Attune does not share user data with third parties, does not have an employer-accessible directory, and does not integrate with professional networks. Your profile, your matches, and your data are visible only to you and to the matches Attune introduces you to. We never sell data to advertisers.

No. Every Attune profile requires a live emotion-capture session to generate. Liveness detection built into the session means pre-recorded video, static images, and stolen likenesses are rejected. Involuntary micro-expressions cannot be reproduced from a photo. The people you match with on Attune are verifiably real.

Attune is designed to produce a small number of high-quality matches rather than a large swipe queue. The emphasis is on quality over volume — in our closed beta, 94% of matched users rated their first matched conversation as genuinely interesting or better. The number of matches will vary by your location and who is in the Attune pool, particularly at launch.

You set your own preferences for who you'd like to be matched with, and the emotion AI matching operates identically regardless of orientation or identity. Attune's models were trained across 6 countries and 14 cultures to reduce bias in emotional expression recognition.
