Attune is built on EchoDepth, the emotional AI engine developed by Cavefish AI, a Cardiff-based company specialising in real-time facial Action Unit analysis.

EchoDepth analyses the 42 muscle movements that make up human facial expression, the FACS system originally developed by psychologist Paul Ekman, and maps them to emotional states in real time without wearables, sensors, or any hardware beyond your phone's front camera. Safety & security

Fake profiles are practically impossible on Attune. Every user must complete a live emotion-capture session to create their profile. Bots and catfish accounts cannot fake involuntary micro-expressions. They require a real human face, in real time. If someone tries to use a pre-recorded video, our liveness detection flags it instantly. This makes Attune the most fraud-resistant dating platform available.

Safety is our highest priority. Every user is identity-verified during the emotion-capture process, meaning anonymous throwaway accounts don't exist. We have zero-tolerance policies for harassment and a reporting system that escalates to human review within two hours. You also have full control over who can contact you and what you share.

Report and block in one tap. All reports go to a human review team, not just an algorithm. If a user is found to have harassed another, their account is permanently banned and they cannot re-register. We take this seriously.

Privacy & data

We process your facial data entirely on your device. Raw video or images never leave your phone. What we retain is an anonymised "emotional vector", a mathematical representation of your emotional tendencies that contains no biometric data. This vector is encrypted, stored securely, and can be permanently deleted by you at any time.

Never. Attune does not run ads and we do not sell, rent, or share your personal data, emotional or otherwise, with third parties for commercial purposes. Our business model is a subscription fee, not data brokerage. That alignment of incentives matters: we make money when you find love, not when we sell your profile.

Yes, completely and permanently. Go to Settings → Privacy → Delete My Data. Your profile, emotional vector, chat history, and all associated data are permanently erased within 24 hours. We comply fully with GDPR right-to-erasure requirements. No data is archived or retained in backups after deletion.

How matching works

In our beta, 94% of matched users rated their match as "genuinely interesting or better" after their first conversation, compared to an industry average of around 23% on swipe-based apps. We measure compatibility across three emotional dimensions, valence, arousal, and dominance, giving a much richer picture of compatibility than attraction alone.

They can try, but it backfires. Our technology detects involuntary micro-expressions, facial movements lasting less than 200 milliseconds that are extremely difficult to consciously control. If someone tries to perform happiness they don't feel, the signal is inconsistent and their emotional profile becomes inaccurate. The result: they get worse matches, not better ones. The system rewards authenticity.

Absolutely. Emotional compatibility is universal. It doesn't depend on sexual orientation or gender identity. You set your identity and preferences during onboarding, and our matching only introduces you to people within those preferences. Attune was built from the ground up to be inclusive for everyone.

You still have a profile with photos. Physical attraction is part of human connection and we're not pretending otherwise. The difference is that photos are revealed after emotional compatibility is confirmed, not before. We've found this significantly reduces superficial swiping and dramatically improves the quality of conversations.

Getting started

The emotion-capture and matching process is free. A premium tier unlocks unlimited messaging, extended match insights, and priority access to new features. Waitlist members get six months of premium free at launch. We'll never hide core functionality behind a paywall.

Attune will be available on iOS (iPhone 11 and later) and Android (Android 10+). The emotion-capture technology requires a front-facing camera with a minimum resolution of 8MP. Most phones manufactured after 2020 will work perfectly.
